A family vacation or a treasure hunt?

When Melinda's goldfish, Teensie, gains the ability to speak, Melinda and her father learn of a long-forgotten treasure off the coast of Nova Scotia.

Teensie is positive he knows where it is, but can Melinda and her father overcome a fear of water and sharks to retrieve it?

This is the book cover for Melinda Book 2: Melinda On Her Own. It shows a disheveled girl between 10-12 years holding a bike helmet. The girl is not smiling and looks exhausted. On her tummy is the special travel tank Teensie, the talking fish, travels in.

An entire day with no supervision, what could go wrong?

When Melinda's father gets sick, he gives her directions to ask the neighbour for help, but Melinda wants to show him her independence and do it herself.

Things don't go according to her plan. A small white lie quickly balloons into a small fire and an investigation by the police.

Will Melinda be able to pull the day together and give her father the rest he needs to get better?

This image is the cover for Melinda Book 3: Melinda Saves the Whales. It shows a girl (age 10-12) jumping on a dock with a a sunset behind her. Her hands are in the air - it's an "I did it!" jump.

Melinda, her father, and Teensie are back. On a ferry ride from mainland British Columbia to Vancouver Island, they overhear a horrible plot to kill a whale.

Getting between poachers and their prey is dangerous, but the conservation officers need Melinda to get more information.

Can Melinda, her father, and Teensie stop the poachers and protect the native whale population? Or will they get the needed information too late?

Melinda and her friend Maria hatch a plan to run away before their parents can make them get the flu shot.

Melinda's father is unknowingly one step ahead of them and Melinda quickly finds herself in a room with a nurse and a needle.

What's a girl to do?

Join Melinda and Teensie as they race to discover why people get the flu shot and the responsibility that comes with making big decisions.

Does having a choice mean Melinda must say "no?"

Melinda Goes Camping

A carefully planned camping trip goes astray when Melinda and her family find themselves stranded at the side of the road.

Looking to make the most of an unfortunate situation, they decide to set up camp.

A cunning eagle swoops in and gives them more adventure than they ever imagined when he fishnaps Teensie.

Melinda and her father rush to rescue him before he is badly hurt, or worse.

Fighting an unfamiliar forest filled with bears, and a rushing stream filled with salmon, this is the largest adventure Melinda and her father have embarked on!

Melinda and the Substitute Teacher

Melinda's teacher is away for the day, but the sub isn't like any teacher Melinda has ever experienced before.

Teensie tries to tell her that having a he teacher is no big deal, but to Melinda it's all just too much.

The class bully pushes every button Melinda has and the sub quickly makes up his mind that Melinda is too much trouble.

To make it worse, the class pet, Mantie, goes missing and Melinda must find him before he is killed!

Can Melinda navigate the challenge of having a surprise substitute teacher and rescue Mantie?

For Parents

The MELINDA series features books suitable for grades 3-6, ages 7-11. Short chapters encourage reading "just a little more," and a large vocabulary keeps things interesting.

Every MELINDA book centers around a safe, wholesome adventure where Melinda must use the tools and skills she has previously developed to fix the problem.

NO catty girl drama
NO boy-crazy idolizing
NO children being forced to do adult jobs

Clean. Safe. Fun.

*Please note. There are STRONG themes of inclusiveness throughout this series. Melinda herself is modelled after an autistic child, and her companion Teensie, the talking goldfish, requires that his environment travel with him, while he relies on the people around him to allow him to access the world.

As a society, we push disabled and differently-abled people into the shadows. In MELINDA, these people shine and are valued members of their families and communities.

TALES FROM THE TANK has even stronger themes of inclusiveness as Teensie, the talking goldfish of the MELINDA books shares what his experience is like trying to participate in the world but having limited access and gatekeepers at every corner.
